Dear Members of the Hunter College Community:

As many of you know, Hunter College is seeking reaccreditation from its major accrediting body, the Middles States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).  I am very happy to report that our self-study report is complete and we are preparing for the evaluation team's visit to our campus.  I want to thank all of you who contributed to this effort over the past 18 months as working group members, resources, and reviewers.  You have done a great service for the College and we are all indebted to you.  I especially want to thank the Middle States’ Steering Committee and its co-chairs, Provost Vita Rabinowitz and Professors Philip Alcabes of the Urban Public Health Program and Sandra Clarkson of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, for the major role they played in writing the report and for their leadership and dedication throughout the process.

I would like to ask for your help in ensuring that the next crucial step in the accreditation process – the evaluation team visit – is a great success. The team will visit Hunter on April 26th through 29th.  About a week before they arrive, our team chair will let us know whom the team would like to meet during its visit.  I ask that you do all you can to be available on Monday, April 27th, and Tuesday, April 28th, when the team will conduct its interviews.  On Wednesday, April 29th at 10am in the Faculty Dining Room (8th floor, West Building), Dr. Earl Richardson, Chair of our evaluation team and President of Morgan State University, will give an preview of the team's report to an open meeting of the Hunter College community.  I invite you to attend this open meeting and look forward to seeing you there.

I also want to encourage each of you to read the self-study report (posted below), which documents our compliance with MSCHE's fourteen standards of excellence and highlights Hunter's accomplishments over the past decade, with a particular focus on the last five years since our interim report was filed.  I hope that you agree that Hunter has a record of achievement that we can all be proud of.

Sincerely,

Jennifer J. Raab
