New Admissions Procedures for Undergraduates Nursing Programs – Fall 2013

 

 

The Generic Pathways & Accelerated Second-Degree Pathway Programs

 

The Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing now uses the NursingCAS, a centralized application service for students applying to all types of Nursing programs.  Undergraduate Nursing Applications 2013 for the Generic & Accelerated Second-Degree Pathway Programs will open from Friday, November 30th through and including Friday, February 1st.  Applicants will apply online through NursingCAS on https://portal.nursingcas.org.  Please note that there is a $45 fee to apply.  All applicants are required to submit an application, all college transcripts including Hunter College transcripts to NursingCAS.  NursingCAS verifies the application components for accuracy, calculates the GPA, and distributes the materials to nursing programs.  Please note that you can only apply to one of the Undergraduate Nursing programs: the New Generic Pathway, the Traditional Generic Pathway or the Accelerated Second-Degree Pathway.  To learn more about NursingCAS you can visit the following link – http://nursingcas.org.

You can only apply to one Undergraduate Nursing program.

If you are applying to the New Generic Pathway Program, The New Generic Pathway program is for Hunter College students who will be able to begin the Nursing program as sophomore nursing students in Fall 2013.

You MUST be matriculated at Hunter College for the Spring 2013 semester

You will submit your application to NursingCAS on https://portal.nursingcas.org and send all college transcripts, including your Hunter College transcript to NursingCAS.  There is a $45 fee for your  application.  If you wish to apply to other nursing schools, there is a fee of $30 for each subsequent application.  Please note that you will not be allowed to apply to the Traditional Generic Pathway, or the Accelerated Second Degree Pathway programs if you are applying to the New Generic Pathway program. You can only apply to one program.

You must complete  of ALL prerequisite courses (English Composition, Statistics, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology (LifeSpan), General Chemistry with lab, Organic Chemistry with lab, and a American History/ Political Science course), with the exception of four courses which can be taken during Spring 2013.  You must receive a minimum of a B in all Science prerequisite courses and a minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA to apply and be considered.  If you are accepted provisionally because you are taking prerequisite courses in Spring 2013 and fail to make at least a B grade in your Science prerequisite courses or a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, your provisional acceptance to the program will be cancelled. 

A career goal statement is required and is to be submitted through your NursingCAS application.

You may take the NLN RN Pre-Admission PAX exam at the Hunter College Testing Service, or arrange to take it elsewhere.  The deadline to take the exam is Friday, March 1, 2013.  Scores for the NLN RN Pre-Admission PAX exam, if taken outside of Hunter College, must be sent directly to Maria Luisa Mendoza, Pre-Nursing Advisor, Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, 425 E 25th Street, Box 626, New York, NY 10010 from the NLN.  Only official test scores will be accepted.

The deadline to apply to NursingCAS is Friday, February 1st.

All correspondence about your application will be sent to your Hunter email address.

If you are applying to the Traditional Generic Pathway Program, The Traditional Generic Pathway program is for Hunter College students who will be able to begin the Nursing program as junior nursing students in Fall 2013.  Fall 2013 will be the last class accepted into the Traditional Generic Pathway program.

You MUST be matriculated at Hunter College for the Spring 2013 semester

If you are applying to the Accelerated Second-Degree Pathway Program,

You must be a baccalaureate degree graduate from an accredited institution by June 1, 2013 in order to apply to the Accelerated Second-Degree Pathway program.

You must apply to Hunter College as an Undergraduate Transfer Student on http://cuny.edu/admissions/undergraduate.html by Friday, February 1, 2013.  Admission to the nursing program is contingent upon admission to Hunter College.  Send one set of all transcripts to General Transfer Admission, CUNY/UAPC,  P. O. Box 359023, Brooklyn, NY 11235-9023.

You must submit your application to NursingCAS on https://portal.nursingcas.org , submit an additional set of all transcripts to NursingCAS, as well – including your Hunter College transcripts, if need be.  There is a $45 fee for your application.  If you wish to apply to other nursing schools, there is a fee of $30 for each subsequent application.  Please note that you will not be allowed to apply to the New Generic Pathway, or the Traditional  Generic Pathway programs if you are applying to the Accelerated Second Degree Pathway program . You can only apply to one program.

You must have completed ALL prerequisites (English Composition, Statistics, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology (LifeSpan), General Chemistry with lab, Organic Chemistry with lab, Human Anatomy & Physiology (2 courses), Nutrition, Genetics and Microbiology with lab), with the exception of two which can be taken during Spring 2013.  You must receive a minimum of a B in all Science prerequisites with a minimum of an overall 3.0 GPA.  If you are taking prerequisite courses in Spring 2013 and are provisionally accepted but fail to make at least a B grade in your Science prerequisite courses with a 3.0 minimum overall GPA, your acceptance to the program will be cancelled.

A career goal statement is required through your NursingCAS application.
