RN Pathway

Admissions and Readmissions to the RN Pathway program are suspended for 2011. Applications for the RN Pathway program will re-open in Fall 2012.

The RN Pathway is the suggested course of study for students who have an Associate's Degree in Nursing and a NY State RN License.

The Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing is one of the largest and most prestigious nursing programs in the country. The School of Nursing is located on the Brookdale Campus of Hunter College, 425 East 25th Street at 1st Avenue adjacent to The VA Hospital, Bellevue Hospital and NYU Medical Center. The undergraduate program of study combines liberal arts and professional education with a humanistic and comprehensive approach to heath care, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. Admission to the program occurs in both Fall and Spring semesters, and part-time study is available. The undergraduate program also provides a foundation for graduate study at the Master’s level, which is offered at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing.

The RN to BSN consists of two parts:

  • Lower Division (liberal arts and general education requirements)
  • Upper Division (professional nursing education)

Requirements necessary to apply to the Upper Division:

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 36 credits in liberal arts and sciences.
  • Must have completed the equivalent of 24 credits in nursing.
  • If your Associate Degree is from a school outside of the United States, you must take the Nursing Regents College Examinations (RCEs) in Adult Nursing, Maternal and Child Nursing, and Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing at the Baccalaureate level, with a score of “C” or better. These exams must be completed within 1 year after admission to HBSON. To schedule a time to take the RCEs, contact Excelsior College.
  • RCE scores must be provided to the Hunter College Admissions office.
  • Must be licensed to practice as an RN in New York State by December 1st for students admitted in the fall semester or June 1 for students admitted in the spring semester. Students unable to document receiving an RN license will not be permitted to continue in the Upper division.
  • Must submit evidence of current liability insurance, health insurance and CPR certification prior to entering the first semester of the Upper division.
  • Please note that all students must submit a health clearance form annually, documenting the completion of required immunizations, blood titers, physical exam and a statement from the health care provider that the student is capable of full participation in the nursing program and ability to care for patients. Additionally, all students must carry health insurance and malpractice insurance.
