The Office of Financial Aid can only originate loans for a student after the student has submitted the Direct Loan Request Form and registered for classes, since the number of credits registered for determines the amount of the approved loan. The loan record is then sent from CUNY to the Department of Education for approval to disburse the loan funds and to the Direct Loan Servicer, who checks the promissory note status.
Disbursement of Federal Direct Loan funds at Hunter College can be made either by direct deposit into the student’s bank account or by a check, mailed to the student from the Bursar’s Office. We encourage students to enroll for direct deposit, since it is the fastest way of delivering financial aid to students. (Unfortunately, direct deposit is not available to parents who borrow Federal Direct PLUS Loan funds.)
Please note that if you have an outstanding tuition liability due to Hunter College, the Bursar's Office will deduct the amount of these charges from your loan fund before the loan is disbursed to you.
