The Direct Loan Application Process: Step 5 (GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY)

With the implementation of the CUNYfirst system, graduate degree students will be pre-packaged for Fall and Spring semesters ONLY.

What does this mean?

·         A matriculated graduate student will be packaged direct unsubsidized loans based on the FAFSA application submitted. Students will be granted the maximum amount allowed for Fall and Spring semesters only. Students have the option to accept, reduce or decline the direct loan amount.

·         To accept, reduce or decline your direct loans, you MUST complete the following steps:

  Step 1: Log on to CUNYfirst at

  Step 2: Select HR/Campus Solutions

√ Step 3: Navigate to Self-Service followed by Student Center

  Step 4: In the Finances section, click the Accept/Decline Awards link.

  Step 5: Select the year you wish to view.

√ Step 6: Review your award package. Accept, decline or reduce your award as needed.
