Ph.D -- Yale University. He specializes in metaphysics and ethics. He is currently (2004) working on projects about the philosophy of time, Whitehead’s metaphysics, and just war principles and their application.
He has published articles on various topics in metaphysics and ethics in American Philosophical Quarterly, Australasian Journal of Philosophy, The Journal of Ethics, The Journal of Philosophy, The Modern Schoolman, The Monist, Process Studies, Public Affairs Quarterly, and Transactions of the Charles S. Peirce Society.
His work on Whitehead includes the book Whitehead's Ontology and articles and book chapters, including (most recently) "Alfred North Whitehead, 1861-1947" in The Blackwell Guide to American Philosophy. His most recent piece on war and morality is "Preventive Wars, Just War Principles, and the United Nations" in The Journal of Ethics.
He teaches a variety of courses, including (in recent years) Aesthetics (PHILO 258), Aristotle (PHILO 381), Foundations of Modern Philosophy (PHILO 215), International Ethics (PHILO 248), Kant (PHILO 384), Metaphysics (PHILO 360), and Questions of War and Peace (PHILO 200.82).
