All of these courses count toward the philosophy major. Save for PHILO 171, they all satisfy Stage 3 or “Focused Exposure” of the GER and thus carry the “W” designation. Only PHILO 201 satisfies Category V of the Distribution Requirement.*

(C) Save for PHILO 244, PHILO, 246, PHILO 248, PHILO 250, PHILO 252, PHILO 256, PHILO 258, PHILO 262, PHILO 268, PHILO 270, PHILO 275, & PHILO 279, all courses in [B] satisfy Group 4 of the Pluralism & Diversity (P&D) Requirement. PHILO 216 & PHILO 230 count toward the major and satisfy as well Group 3 of the P&D Requirement. PHILO 219 counts toward the major and satisfies Group 1 of the P&D Requirement. PHILO 226 counts toward the major and satisfies Group 2 of the P&D Requirement.

(D) PHILO 275 and PHILO 279 count toward the major, but do not satisfy Stage 3 or “Focused Exposure” of the GER or carry the “W” designation.

(E) All PHILO courses at the 300-level have the pre-requisites of at least 2 courses in philosophy and ENGL 120. These courses count toward the major or Stage 3, Focused Exposure, of the the GER.***

(F) All PHILO courses at the 400-level have the pre-requisites of at least 3 courses in philosophy, ENGL 120, and permission of the instructor. These courses (“Independent Study,” “Honors Tutorial,” & “In-Service Learning”) count toward the major exclusively. Only full-time faculty members can be instructors of 400-level philosophy courses.
