Valentine Sanders

Valentine Sanders, Political Science Major and Hunter Class of 2011, participated in the 62nd Student Conference on United States Affairs (SCUSA) at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from November 10-13, 2010. Valentine spent four days on the West Point campus discussing urgent issues of American security with students from around the world and attending lectures by pre-eminent figures in the field, including former Ambassador-at-Large for Counterterrorism Michael A. Shaheen and Admiral James G. Stavridis, Supreme Allied Commander Europe. Valentine sat on the Regional Aspects of the Afghan War panel with Lieutenant Colonel John Gossart, Special Operations and Counterterrorism Policy Coordinator for the Department of Defense, and Gene Del Bianco, Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence. He took a lead role in drafting a memo reflecting the policy recommendations of the panel, which was subsequently submitted to the President of the United States for his review. West Point has invited Hunter's Political Science faculty to send top students with strong course work in International Relations to SCUSA for over two decades. Many participants have gone on to attend prestigious graduate schools in the field.
