Entrepreneurship Career Panel


Are you intrigued by the success of entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg? Do you want to start your own company someday? Maybe you have a great idea, but aren’t sure what to do next?

 Join us at the Entrepreneurship Career Panel, co-hosted by the Entrepreneur Club and the Pre-Business Program, on Tuesday, April 29th from 1:30-3:30pm in the Centro Conference Room (East 1442). Find out from student and professional entrepreneurs how they came up with their business ideas, raised money, and built their own businesses from scratch. Confirmed panelists include:

 

  • Sutian Dong, Senior Associate at Firstmark Capital
  • Joseph Franzese, Co-founder of The Alexa Group and Hobnob mobile app
  • Greg Segal, Co-founder of Organize.org
  • Ben Sun, Partner at High Peak Ventures and Launchtime LLC

The panel will run for approximately 60 minutes, followed by a networking reception afterwards. We recommend this career panel for anyone curious about entrepreneurship, working at start ups, or how venture capitalists decide which companies in which to invest.

Special Lecture Series: Language & Tools of Wall Street featuring veteran investor Stefan Abrams


Are you interested in working on Wall Street? Are you intrigued by the ups and downs of worldwide markets? Do you want to become a savvy investor of your own money? Attend the Pre-Business Program's special lecture series to develop a clear understanding of how Wall Street works and how investment professionals make money. Learn how to evaluate the health and growth prospects of any company, and develop your own view on where the markets are going. We especially recommend this interactive lecture series for anyone interested in or planning on working on Wall Street. 
Stefan Abrams has 50+ years of experience as an equity research analyst and portfolio manager. He is currently a Senior Partner at Bryden-Abrams Investment Management. Stefan is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.  
The lecture series will cover the following topics:
Wed, 3/12: The structure of a corporation; How companies make their profits; Evaluating a company's growth prospects
Wed, 3/19: Evaluating the health of a company; Power metrics vs. Stock prices vs. Earnings; Equity valuation methods; Corporate maturation cycles
Wed, 3/26: How cheap/expensive is today's stock market?; Trading patterns in today's markets
Wed, 4/9: Portfolio management; The bond markets; Managing your managers

Effective Networking Skills Workshop

 

Do you know how to network your way into a job? Do you want to work in a particular industry but don't know anyone in that field? Are you comfortable asking someone you've never met before for help? Effective networking skills are more critical than ever in today's competitive job market. Join the Pre-Business Program's Networking Skills Workshop to learn how to become a better networker in your personal and professional lives. The interactive workshop will feature two student case studies, Karamo Ceesay and Leon Bodden, and how they developed their very different networking styles. Macaulay Honors College and Hunter College Pre-Business Program are delighted to co-host Diane Shults, a veteran Human Resources professional with +17 years experience in financial services. She will be sharing invaluable insights about how to strategically position and prepare yourself to be an attractive candidate for investment banks and other financial institutions. Feature Speaker Ann Kaplan, Partner at Circle Wealth Management "How to Become Financially Independent"


The Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute and Hunter College Pre-Business Program are delighted to co-host Ann Kaplan of Circle Wealth Management and Circle Financial Group. Ms. Kaplan will be sharing invaluable insights about career progression and achieving financial independence at different stages of your life, through the context of her own illustrious career on Wall Street and beyond. 

Ms. Kaplan was previously a General Partner and Managing Director at Goldman Sachs. A member of the Fixed Income Division for 23 years, she served as Head of the Municipal bond Department, in addition to working in the Asset Management Division. Ms. Kaplan serves as a board member of the Goldman Sachs Bank USA and LearnVest, an online financial planning service for women.  She also serves on the boards of Columbia University, the Museum of Arts & Design, the Economic Club of New York and the American Red Cross in Greater New York.  She is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Columbia University School of Business, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Women’s Forum and the Committee of 200.  She was a former trustee and founder of the Center for Women’s Financial Independence at Smith College.

The BAT is a global, standardized online test developed by Bloomberg Institute in partnership with premier financial institutions and university faculty around the world. The test covers a range of subjects including Finance, Global Markets, Investment Banking, Math and Verbal skills.

The test is a terrific opportunity for all students interested in a variety of financial industries including Investment Banking, Sales and Trading, Investment Management, Accounting, Consulting, Research, Insurance and many others.
