Title: University of Rochester Medical School Early Assurance Program Information Session
Description: The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) offers an Early Assurance Program (EAP) to a select group of highly qualified college sophomores who attend Hunter College. The EAP offers a conditional acceptance to URMC following the successful completion of your four-year undergraduate degree.
Academically qualified sophomore undergraduates may apply in May and June following the completion of their sophomore year and will not be required to take the MCAT exam.
•Formal Clerkships begin in March of your 1st year in medical school.
•Home of the Biopsychosocial model – a holistic view of the patient.
•Rochester is in the top 15% of primary care schools that also
rank in the top 25% of research-intensive medical schools.

Title: Doctor Speaker Series with Dr. Zinaida Pelkey, D.O.
Description: Pre-Health Organization presents Doctor speaker series with Dr. Pelkey. Dr. Pelkey is a DO who received her training from NYIT's College of Osteopathic medicine. She is certified in both neuromuscular medicine and Osteopathic manipulative medicine. Dr. Pelkey uses her skills to effectively treat patients who are experiencing pain. In addition to being a physician, she also teaches and was once president of the Osteopathic Cranial Academy.
Refreshments will be served.

Title: Chiropractic Medicine 101:New York Chiropractic College Information Session
Description: What is Chiropractic Medicine? Chiropractic medicine focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health.
Join us for an informative presentation by Bri Printup from the Admissions Office at New York Chiropractic College.
Title: Naloxone Training for Pre-Health Students
Description: Naloxone administration is an emergency intervention to prevent opioid overdose. Pre-Health students will get hands-on experience, gain some knowledge about the current opioid crisis and learn how they may help people in their communities. It is also a great experience to include on your health professions graduate school applications.
This training will be conducted by the Lower East Side Harm Reduction Center (LESHRC).
Title: Trauma Management and Point of Injury Care
Description: We will discuss the main causes of death in emergency care and learn how to manage the three preventable causes of death; which are hemorrhaging, airway compromise, and tension pneumothorax. In addition, we will go over the different phases of initial care from point of injury through medical evacuation. We will have demonstrations of some medical equipment and hands on skills.
Title: Psychiatrist Talk with Dr. Jess P. Shatkin, MD, MPH
Description: The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on Campus and the Pre-Health Office are happy to announce a Doctor-Speaker Series event with Jess P. Shatkin, MD, MPH. Dr. Shatkin is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist currently practicing in New York City.
At this event, Dr. Shatkin will speak of his experiences as he was receiving his education, as well as answer the common questions people are afraid to ask out loud. As a psychiatrist, he will be able to speak about the stigma behind receiving psychiatric treatment, being hospitalized, attending therapy, taking medications, etc.
Dr. Shatkin is the Vice Chair for Education in the NYU Child Study Center, and Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the NYU School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Shatkin is the founder and director of nation's largest undergraduate child development program, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies (CAMS) at NYU. His major clinical interests are mood and anxiety disorders, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, disruptive behavior disorders, and sleep. Dr. Shatkin received his bachelors degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his Medical Doctorate from the State University of New York at Brooklyn (Downstate Medical Center) and completed his post-graduate training in general and child/adolescent psychiatry at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. He is board certified in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry.
Title: Physical Therapist Talk- Dr. Jason Roth
Description: Pre Health Organization presents Physical Therapy Speaker Session with Jason Roth. Dr. Roth is a physical therapist, practicing for 16 years. He is the co-owner and director of Evolve Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, which is a private practice on the Upper East Side. He is a Board Certified Sports Specialist and a certified personal trainer. Dr. Roth is also the sports medicine advisor on the board of the Syosset Baseball Association, and participated in the United Stayed Olympic Committee sports medicine volunteer program. He is a great person for people interested in sports medicine to meet. He is also a Master Clinician for NYU’s physical therapy doctorate program.
