Post Bacc Committee Letter


Post Baccalaureate Committee Letter Document Requirement


The 2020 - 2021 Post Bacc Committee Letter Application Cycle will open on August 28, 2019, and will close January 15, 2020. The Hunter College Committee Letter Application along with all supporting letters of recommendations and evaluations must be submitted no later than January 15, 2020.

Please plan to attend a Post-Bacc Committee Letter Workshop. There will be one in-person evening workshop scheduled in September 2019, and a recorded version available on Blackboard during winter break. If you do NOT attend a Committee Letter Workshop you will NOT be eligible to receive a Post-Bacc Committee Letter. ONLY students applying in the current application cycle should attend this workshop.

Requirements for a Post Bacc Committee Letter:

To qualify for a Post Bacc Committee Letter you are required to:

  1. Attend a mandatory Post Bacc Committee Letter Application Workshop.
  2. Maintain an active Pre-Health file for at least 1 academic year before applying for a Post Bacc Committee Letter.
  3. Be an active Pre-Health student (meet with a Pre-Health advisor at least once per semester), and attend 2 Pre-Health events per semester while enrolled at Hunter (you must check in at the beginning of the event to have your attendance verified).
  4. Have 56 verified hours of Hunter College community service.
  5. Maintain at least a 3.3 term and cumulative science and mathematics GPA: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics (BCPM).
  6. Complete at least 38 credits of Math and Science at Hunter.
  7. Release MCAT, DAT or GRE test scores to Hunter College by May 30, 2020.
  8. Take your Admission Exam no later than April 2020 .
  9. Score: MCAT: 512 (ALLOPATHIC); MCAT: 507 (DO); DAT: 21; GRE: 315. Scores below the stated minimum qualify candidates for a Letter Packet.
  10. 8-10 course evaluations*- You must have at least 3 course evaluations from science courses (1 from Biology, 1 from Chemistry, and 1 from Physics preferred).
  11. 6 letters of recommendation*- You must have 1 letter from a Hunter science (biology, chemistry or physics) faculty member, 1 letter from a doctor, and 1 from a research supervisor.

*The 8-10 course evaluations and 6 letters of recommendation must all be submitted by January 15, 2020.

Committee Letter Application Timeline

The minimum 14-16 documents- 6 letter of recommendation 8-10 course evaluations needed to qualify for the Committee Letter 5 letters of recommendation to qualify for a Letter Packet MUST be in your file by January 15.
January 15
The deadline to apply for a Committee Letter or a Letter Packet is January 15, 2020.
April Latest date to take MCAT, DAT, OAT and GRE to receive a Committee Letter.

  • Medical School Update Letters and Letters of Intent
  • Financing Your Medical School Education
  • Committee Letter Application Workshop

The following workshops are also required depending on your Pre-Health Track:

  • Preparing and Applying to Dental School
  • Preparing and Applying to Occupation Therapy School
  • Preparing and Applying to Optometry School
  • Preparing and Applying to Pharmacy School
  • Preparing and Applying to Physical Therapy School
  • Preparing and Applying to Physician Assistant School
  • Preparing and Applying to Veterinary School

N.B.: If you are accepted by any medical or health professional school, and you refuse to attend, the Pre-Health Advising Office will not support your application with a Committee Letter in any subsequent cycle.
