Special Programs & Partnerships

Hunter College has entered into contractual agreements with external institutions to offer special programs and partnerships to our most accomplished students. Each of our special programs and partnerships have different agreements that specify rules and regulations that Hunter College must comply with to be in compliance with our contractual agreements. As such, we cannot make exceptions for applicants who do not meet the criteria for program participation.

Please check the Pre-Health website and watch for emails from the Hunter College Pre-Health Listserv for details about program openings, requirements and deadlines. Do feel free to query your Pre-Health Advisor regarding programs that peak your interest.

Early Assurance for Hunter College Undergraduates

Early Assurance programs allow Hunter College Pre-Health students in any major to apply for early assurance of acceptance into a medical school without the stresses and expense of applying to multiple medical colleges during their final year of undergraduate study. If a student is accepted into an early assurance program, the student is contractually expected to matriculate at that medical school. If the student chooses to reject the offer and apply broadly to medical schools, the Pre-Health Office will not support an applicant who defaults on their early assurance agreement and who seeks to apply to another or multiple other medical schools.

Hunter College has Early Assurance Program Agreements with these institutions:

* The State University of New York at Downstate - Rising Juniors

* The University of Rochester School of Medicine - Sophomores

See the Early Assurance link on the Pre-Health Advising webpage under Resources.

Unaffiliated Early Assurance Programs

Certain medical schools offer early assurance programs to all students, regardless of institution, who meet their program requirements. Detailed below are programs Hunter College supports:

*The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai - FlexMed for Sophomores

*The State University of New York Upstate Medical University - Sophomores

*The University of Toledo School of Medicine - MedStart for Juniors

See the Early Assurance link on the Pre-Health Advising webpage under Resources.

Linkage for Hunter College Postbac Pre-Health Certificate Students

Linkage programs allow a limited number of postbac students to apply to one medical school in the final year of their postbac program completion. As such, linkage is a contractual agreement between the medical school and the applicant: if the applicant complies with all of the linkage requirements, the medical school is obligated to accept the student into the contractual year's medical program class. If accepted, the applicant agrees to matriculate at that medical school the summer directly following program completion. Matriculation deferment is not an option for linkage applicants. If a student has a compelling reason to defer, the medical school may offer the student the option to apply via early decision or general admission the following year.

Linkage is a competitive program and all applicants must be vetted and invited to apply via linkage by the Pre-Health Advising Office. Students must take the MCAT and may apply to only one school. There are specific requirements for each medical school and linkage applicants must complete requirements for the medical school and the requirements of the Hunter College Pre-Health Advising Office. Upon acceptance by the medical school to matriculate via linkage, the candidate must commit to matriculate at that designated medical school. The Pre-Health Office will not support an applicant who defaults on their linkage agreement and who seeks to apply to another or multiple other medical schools after acceptance by the medical school selected via the Linkage process.

* Weill-Cornell Medical College

* The Donald & Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell
