Dr. Maria A. Giammarella has been a member of the Hunter College faculty for more than thirty years and is a strong advocate for the needs of opportunity program students in higher education.   Her commitment to multicultural counseling is an integral part of her professional work, teaching, research and scholarly endeavors.   She is a licensed Psychologist in the State of New York.

Current Areas of Research:

Dr. Giammarella’s research interests and publications have focused on developing culturally relevant educational and career interventions for at-risk college students and assessing the impact of those interventions.   Recently, she completed an online multimedia educational and career planning tutorial using video interviews of Hunter College SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) Program alumni.  The tutorial represents a unique resource supporting counseling coursework and services to opportunity program students.  The tutorial project was made possible by a grant from the CUNY Office of Special Programs and the Hunter College SEEK Department.
