Admissions Information

Eligibility Requirements

Admissions to the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (formerly Community Health) is Fall semester only. Qualified students may apply via our online application below early Spring semester if prerequisites will be completed in that semester. See additional major admissions information below. Admissions Requirements

  1. Completion of 60 credits at time of admission to the program (courses may still be in progress at time of application).
  2. A combined GPA of 3.0 from all colleges attended
  3. Completion of the following Prerequisite Courses with a grade of "C" or better
    •    English Composition (ENG 12000 or equivalent), 3 cr
    •    Intro to Sociology (SOC 10100 or equivalent), 3 cr
    •    Introductory Psychology OR Anthropology (PSYCH 10000, PSYCH 15000, ANTHC 10100, or equivalent), 3 cr
    •    Introductory level Statistics (ex: STAT 11000, 11300 or 21300 [STEM] PSYCH 24800, SOC 24100, ECON 22100, or equivalents), 3 credits
    •    Any lab science, =>4 cr

Note: While not a prerequisite, NFS 14100, Intro to Nutrition is a major requirement. If you have taken a nutrition course elsewhere that does not transfer to Hunter as equivalent, it will be accepted as satisfying the public health course requirement--please tell us as you then do not need to take NFS 14100 at Hunter.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS & DEADLINE

The application period for the Fall is Janury 27 through April 30, 2021.

Students interested in becoming a Public Health major must complete either of one applicatiosn as follows:

Current Hunter matriculants submit our UPH/PH online major application form open January 27-April 30
(use Explorer, Firefox or Safari Browsers vs Chrome, and update Flash.) PH does not accept Hunter's Registrar's paper major selection form.

To complete the application, you must compose a max 60 word statement why you are interested in the major, AND upload electronic transcripts for all colleges attended, even if the courses show on the Hunter transcript. You may combine 1+ transcript to one PDF and upload the one. Also insert your cumulative GPA so have this in advance.

If you do not complete the application in one sitting, save the link to return to your in-progress application -- do not press Submit until complete.
