Security Update
Hunter College's 68th Street campus is getting a major upgrade in security. The construction project will install new public safety equipment to all of the campus' buildings. All entrances will get access control devices. At the North and West Buildings, electronic turnstiles will operate by swiping a valid Hunter ID card through a card reader. At the Lexington Avenue entrance to Thomas Hunter Hall and the East Building, electronic doors will also operate by swiping a valid ID card.
A new Visitors Center will be set up in the lobby of the West Building and will be operational seven days a week. The Center will issue temporary passes to individuals and groups visiting the campus and provide temporary IDs to members of the Hunter community who may have misplaced or lost their IDs.
The first phase of construction is scheduled to begin this spring in the West Building. The next phases will involve the North Building, the East Building, and Thomas Hunter Hall. After a period of testing, the system is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2009.
We will continue to keep the Hunter community apprised of the project's progress with regular updates. We ask your understanding and patience as we make this security upgrade a reality. We'll make every effort to keep the inconvenience to a minimum.
