Second Annual Seminar on
Comparative Urban Projects
Rome, Italy, June, 19-23, 2000
In June 1999, the President
of Hunter College of the City University of New York and the Rector of
the University of Rome "La Sapienza" signed
an agreement of cultural and scientific cooperation
on research problems of mutual interest in the fields of Urban Studies,
that will be realized by: a) exchange of visits by scholars; b) exchange
of scientific information, documentation and scientific publication; c)
study meetings,
seminars and courses.
In June 1999, a first Seminar was held in
New York (June, 21-25), under the title: "Rome, Italy/New York, USA: Urban
Problems and Shared Solutions
for the Next Millennium." On this occasion
the participants discussed the following themes: Urban Issues; Social,
Health and Demographic Issues;
Environmental Problems and Management; and Urban
Infrastructure System Management. The working sessions were introduced
by opening reports and other papers designed to promote a comparison
between Rome and New York's Urban Problems. Considered the great
scientific and cultural interest aroused by the New York Seminar,
Hunter College and the Interdepartmental Center for Studies on the
Population and Society of Rome have decided to organize a second Seminar
in Rome (June, 19-23, 2000).
