Student Teaching and Practicum

Hours: Mon-Thurs 10am-6pm, Fri 10am-4pm
Teacher candidates in the M.S.Ed. in bilingual education programs must complete college-supervised student teaching in an early childhood or childhood education setting. Students who complete practicum will also need to take a two-credit student teaching course. All placements are made by Hunter College.
Early childhood education with bilingual education
student teaching and practicum:
• ECC 716.50: Student Teaching Experiences in Early
Childhood Settings for Students in the Bilingual Extension (40 days at
two different age/grade levels). This is a college-supervised
experience with a 30-hour seminar over the semester. Candidates who are
not employed in schools or programs need to pick this option.
OR
• ECC 717.50: Supervised Practicum in Early Childhood in a
Bilingual Setting. This is an on-the-job experience and is taken by
teacher candidates who are lead teachers or associate or assistant
teachers in early childhood schools and programs. It is a
college-supervised experience with a 15-hour seminar.
PLUS
• ECC
718.50: Early Childhood Student Teaching in a Bilingual Setting (20
days).
Childhood education with bilingual education student teaching and practicum:
• BILED 782: Supervised Student Teaching in Grades 1-3 and 4-6 (40 days at two different grade-range levels). This is a college-supervised experience with a 30-hour seminar over the semester. Candidates who are not employed in schools or programs need to pick this option.
OR ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
• BILED 785: Student Teaching in Grades 1-3
(20 days).
• BILED 783: Practicum in Grades 1-3. This is an on-the-job experience and is taken by teacher candidates working in elementary schools. It is a college-supervised experience with a 15-hour seminar.
PLUS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
• BILED 786: Student Teaching in Grades 4-6 (20 days).
• BILED 784: Practicum in Grades 4-6. This is an on-the-job experience and is taken by teacher
candidates working in elementary schools. It is a college-supervised
experience with a 15-hour seminar.
