Dear Dr. Jones,
I was very happy to receive a posting from the Teacher/Counselor Placement Network (TCPN) regarding a need for a third grade teacher in PS 000. My interest in teaching at PS 000 began with the first observation I made in Ms. Doe’s third grade class for a Hunter College Graduate Childhood Education program course requirement. I was impressed with the positive learning environment in the classroom I observed as well as throughout the school. In fact, the more I learned about PS 000 through my observations, the more I realized how I could apply many of my skills and interests to enhance that environment even further.
As can be seen in my resume, I entered teaching following a career as a fundraiser for the Help Now Foundation. This organization reached out to the Spanish community to provide support for new immigrants seeking legal status in the United States. As the child of immigrants from Puerto Rico, I was able to relate to the problems faced by this population and communicate with them in ways they could understand. My experiences serving the often poor Hispanic population for the Help Now Foundation served as a catalyst for me to become a teacher.
Throughout my Hunter College education I have taken advantage of every field placement opportunity to enhance my understanding of how all children learn. I know that presenting information to children in different ages and stages of development requires differentiated instruction and constant assessment to insure information is processed in a manner that can be linked to prior knowledge for retention and use. My expertise in technology has provided me with the skills to create meaningful, technology-rich lessons and activities that engage all learning styles.
I hope you will consider me for the third grade position described in the posting I received from TCPN. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
