Fredericka G. Liggins completed her undergraduate degree in Personnel Management at Hunter College.   Her M.S. in Education, with a concentration in Counseling and Student Personnel Services, is from Fordham University.  She has counseled and taught both traditional-aged and adult college students for over two decades, in both private and public higher education institutions.  Much of her expertise has been in the area of career counseling.  She is a member of the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and is an associate member of the Metropolitan New York College Career Planning Officers’ Association (MNYCCPOA).  Currently, she is pursuing a doctorate in Adult Education.

Counseling/Teaching

Ms. Liggins counsels the SEEK Department’s diverse student body, from freshmen through seniors, in academic, personal and career preparation.  As a lecturer, she teaches the “Orientation to Success” course to incoming SEEK freshmen, in order to provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge base to be successful in college, and to prepare them for career exploration or confirmation of a career path.  Student/counselor continuity is insured, since freshmen are permanently assigned to the specific counselor teaching their orientation class.

Service

Ms. Liggins has participated in community service to the College, the School of Education and her Department by her membership on various committees.  Her College service is as a member of the Senate Grade Appeals Committee, and the Black History Month Committee.  In the School of Education, she serves as a member of the Curriculum Committee.  Within the SEEK Department, she is a member of the Personnel and Budget Committee.  In 2007, she was sent by her Department to participate in the Tri-State Consortium Conference’s Leadership Institute.
