IMPORTANT GRADUATION INFORMATION

In order to officially complete your program and have your degree conferred, you must graduate from your program by first applying for graduation and completing all program and exit requirements on time. The Office of Academic & Student Affairs is here to explain and support you through this process. The Spring 2016 degree conferral date is June 1, 2016. The Summer 2016 conferral date is September 1, 2016.

 First a few definitions:

 Graduation is the official completion of your program  and conferral of an academic degree. It is the “paperwork” process of completing your degree. This process begins when you apply for graduation (more on that in a minute!).

 Commencement is the celebration of your graduation or your impending graduation—it is the ceremony that is usually held prior to your degree being conferred. Diplomas are not prepared in time for the commencement ceremony and are distributed by One Stop for Students about three months after graduation date. 

 

Apply for Graduation via your MyHunter Page:

 All students must apply for graduation via the “My Degree Audit” section of your MyHunter Page—you cannot apply for graduation through CUNYfirst. The first step in applying for graduation is accessing  your MyHunter Page. As a reminder, the username for your MyHunter Page is your NETID (NETIDs are used to access Hunter College Wi-Fi, Blackboard and CUNY Portal. Unless you set the passwords to be the same between MyHunter and other NETID functions such as Wi-Fi and Blackboard, the MyHunter password will be unique. If you need to reset your password, please note that the password reset email will go to your MyHunter email. If you need support in logging into your MyHunter Page, please contact the student helpdesk at studenhelpdesk@hunter.cuny.edu or 212-650-3624., You may also visit the helpdesk in Thomas Hunter Hall on the 4th floor—office hours can be found here. When to Apply:

The graduation application opens sooner than you may think! Please review the table below to determine when you should apply via your MyHunter Page for graduation. Please note for all Spring 16, Summer 16, Fall 16, and Winter 17 candidates who missed the first deadline, do not fret there is still time.

What Happens Next – Graduation Audit Results:

 After you apply, Degree Audit Division will review your application and then provide you with a list of any outstanding exit requirements. You will be alerted via your MyHunter email and your audit results will show up on your MyHunter Page.  These requirements must be met in order to graduate. You will have until the official first day of final exams to complete all requirements. For Spring 2016, the deadline is May 19, 2016.

 Understanding Your Graduation Audit Results – Graduation Advising Workshop Dates:

 In addition to the courses required for your program, All School of Education programs have exit requirements. Please see the attached list for common exit requirements across programs. In order to help you understand these requirements and how to meet them, the Office of Academic & Student Affairs hosts Graduation Workshops each semester. If you have specific questions on your audit results, please plan to attend one of the workshops. For Spring & Summer 2016 graduates, the workshop dates are listed below. It is helpful to bring a copy of your graduation audit results with you to the workshop but not necessary. Space is limited so please RSVP.
