Field and Clinical Experiences
Our Behavior Disorders program provides teacher candidates with multiple opportunities to learn from teachers in the New York City area schools. Nearly all courses in our program have a fieldwork component in which there are school-based assignments related to the content of those courses. The fieldwork hours assigned to each course range from 5 to 20 clock hours, adding up to a total of 100 hours.
The culminating teaching experience for our students is student teaching and practicum (practicum is for students who are certified teachers). There are two teaching experiences of 20 days each: one in grade levels 1-3, and the other in grades 4-6. While engaged in student teaching/practicum, our students are also enrolled in a seminar course with other student teachers and practicum students.
