The programs in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are designed to educate teachers of students whose native language is other than English – whether children, adolescents or adults. The program focuses on the study of specialized methods and techniques that differ from those used by teachers of English to native speakers.

There are four tracks in TESOL, three of which satisfy the requirements for NYS certification.

Track 1: MA program for those with no prior NYS certification and leads to PreK-12 certification.

Track 2: MA program for those with NYS certification and leads to PreK-12 certification.

Track 3: Advanced certificate program for those with graduate degrees in linguistics or related field, leading to PreK-12 certification.

Track 4: MA program in the Adult Track that does not lead to PreK-12 certification.

ITI Supplemental Certificate Program: A grant funded, subsidized program for full time NYCDOE teachers seeking a supplemental certification in TESOL. For more information, please click here.
