The programs in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are designed to educate teachers of students whose native language is other than English – whether children, adolescents or adults. The TESOL program focuses on the study of specialized methods and techniques that differ from those used by teachers of English to native speakers.
There are three tracks in TESOL program that lead to MA degrees, two of which satisfy the requirements for NYS certification.
Track 1: MA program for those with no prior NYS certification and leads to PreK-12 certification.
Track 2: MA program for those with NYS certification and leads to PreK-12 certification.
Track 3: MA program in the Adult Track that does not lead to PreK-12 certification.
Two programs in TESOL lead to Advanced certificate degrees designed for those with graduate degrees in linguistics (or related field) or those with NYS certification in another area that lead to PreK-12 ESOL certification.
