The Quality Urban Elementary School Teacher (QUEST) program is a teacher education program that prepares students to become New York State certified teachers of childhood education grades 1-6. QUEST is a 30-credit program completed over either four or six semesters, which includes extensive field experiences attached to courses. The six-semester sequence is designed for students who enter the program at the conclusion of their freshman year, and have no more than 40 credits. The four-semester sequence is designed for transfer students and Hunter College students who apply to QUEST after they have completed 40 or more credits.
Before Hunter students can declare QUEST as a major, they must apply to the School of Education and be accepted. Qualified applicants must submit a writing sample as well as participate in an interview. Those who are accepted may officially declare QUEST as a major. QUEST students must also declare a major in the School of Arts & Sciences. Since the choice of a second major is restricted to subjects directly related to the critical subject areas in the elementary school curriculum, QUEST students are required to choose one of the following majors:
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
