Childhood Education with a Bilingual Extension
The core beliefs that guide the Bilingual Teacher Preparation Program include (a) additive bilingualism as a desired goal for learners; (b) diversity viewed as a strength upon which to build learning; (c) assessment of cognition, first and second language development and socio-emotional learning as a measure of student growth; and (d) families and communities as a source of strength and knowledge in the development of children as learners.
This two-year program leads to a Masters of Science in Education and eligibility for New York State Initial Certification in Childhood Education with a Bilingual Extension. Like all Teaching Fellows Programs at Hunter College, it features an enhanced and enriched field supervision component. Each Teaching Fellow is observed and critiqued by experienced educators at least four times each semester.
