The Center prides
itself on being grounded in the communities we serve so that together
we can sensitively and effectively address their health and quality-of-life
concerns. We believe in educating the community in order to serve
the community, and involve community members as active participants
in all phases of our work. Our focus is consonant with our urban public
health mission and with the missions of Hunter College and of the
City University of New York.
The Center’s mission-driven research and programs have helped
to improve the lives of members of underserved communities locally,
nationally and internationally. We receive funding from federal, state
and local governmental sources; from community-based organizations;
and from private foundations. Much of this funding is for specific
projects. Contributions from individuals further support our community-based
mission, and will go toward general operating funds. Contributions
are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.*
