Student Resources
The HPEC meets the complex educational needs of students at different instructional levels and operates as a comprehensive learning center using audiovisual and computer materials as a primary teaching strategy.

The advent of interactive instructional technologies has greatly improved the ways in which we acquire and retain knowledge. The HPEC provides students with access to the following instructional resources:
  • Anatomical Charts and Models
  • Electronic resources/ Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI’s)
  • Health related video library
  • Multimedia study carrels
  • Screening rooms
  • Reserve materials


Faculty Resources

From its inception the HPEC has promoted the use of new media technologies and has been vital in coordinating and facilitating educational resources for faculty, staff and students. The Center staff works:
  • to integrate innovative instructional technologies into the curriculum
  • on research initiatives
  • to promote the development of on-line test strategies
  • to identify and secure resources
  • to keep reserve materials updated
  • to create controlled test environments
  • on technology solutions for all instructional needs

The HPEC supports the following programs:
  • The Becoming Excellent Students in Transition (BEST) program provides pre-entry preparation and retention activities for students interested in nursing and the health professions.
  • The Learning Enhancement Opportunities (LEO) project consists of a multifaceted approach to enhance learning opportunities for nursing students studying for the nursing certification exam (NCLEX).

Putting Materials on Reserve:

The Learning Center accepts materials faculty wish to place on reserve.
These include:
  • Anatomical Models
  • Clinical viewing tapes
  • Powerpoint presentations
  • Special classroom related software

Online Testing Environment:

The HPEC provides a controlled computer testing environment for faculty-generated online tests. A controlled testing environment minimizes the release of test questions to the general student population. Faculty can also view students test results online.


Osborne Conference Room:

The center offers conference rooms for faculty meetings.

Collaborative Media/ Video Projects:

In addition, selected members of the HPEC work with faculty on fulfilling their independent media objectives. The HPEC staff has produced many video programs and won media awards from the following groups: The American Journal of Nursing, National Council on Family Relations Media Award, Suffolk County Motion Picture and Video Festival, Superfest International Media Festival, U.S. Film and Video Festival, Herland Film Festival, Mature Media Market Gold Award, Sigma Theta Tau International, Telly Award, Cine Golden Eagle, Three Emmy Award nominations.
