Field Placement Information

All students complete the equivalent of three months (approximately 420 hours) of full time field work. The MPH program has affiliations with more than 50 health agencies in the metropolitan region and with several agencies in other countries. Some field placements are available on evenings and weekends.

Within a week of field placement commencement, each student must submit to the coordinator a listing of what skills the student hopes to attain from the placement and also a list of contributions the student intends to make to the sponsoring agency.  This contract should be negotiated by the student and supervisor and signed by both of you.  The student should send the completed agreement to the UPH fieldwork coordinator.

ALL FIELDWORK IS IN A VOLUNTEER CAPACITY WHICH MEANS STUDENTS ARE NOT NECESSARILY PAID FOR THEIR SERVICES AND THEY ARE REQUIRED TO PAY THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION.  Infrequently, students receive stipends.

All questions regarding field placements should be referred to Professor Barbara Berney, Graduate Fieldwork coordinator, Hunter College, 425 East 25th Street, New York, NY 10010, Room 1022W or she can be reached by phoning 212-481-5110 or fax 212-481-5165 or email at: bberney@hunter.cuny.edu
