BULLETIN-BOARD PROJECT
Nutrition Education (NFS 333) is one of the 3-credit requirements
of the didactic program in dietetics (DPD) at Hunter College. Ever
since 1998 when Dr. Arlene Spark started teaching the course, students
have been required to plan, construct, mount, and evaluate a bulletin
board or display case that communicates a nutrition message to a specific
audience. The board or display is worth 10% of the grade for NFS 333.
(A written component of this project is worth an additional 5%).
Constructing a bulletin board or an educational display provides students
with experience developing and evaluating nutrition education materials,
using visuals to communicate nutrition concepts, and communicating
with professional or lay audiences. This assignment helps students
meet the American Dietetic Association's DPD competencies to attain
a basic knowledge of lay and technical writing (A. 1.2) and of media
presentations (A. 1.3).
Throughout the fall semester, students' bulletin boards are mounted
for one week at a time on the second floor of the Brookdale Health
Science Center, while students choosing to construct a display case
have their work on display for an entire month. Shown here are selected
projects that were on display during the fall 2003 semester. here.
