High School Students

The BEST Program offers monthly Saturday workshops at the Brookdale Campus of Hunter College for a group of New York City high school students. The workshops aim to promote nursing as a career through collaboration with nursing students and professionals, to provide supplemental instruction in academic subject areas, and to prepare students for college acceptance and undergraduate studies. The additional mentoring and counseling offered by the BEST Program help these students to focus on boosting their qualifications for admission to college.

The workshops include instruction and exercises in reading, writing, and mathematics designed to enhance student knowledge. Other topics cover test taking skills, stress management, the role of mentors, and similar areas that prepare students for college success. Nursing topics include general introduction to the discipline of nursing, health disparities, diet and nutrition, and information about health careers.
