Donna M. (Costello) Nickitas, RN, PhD, CNAA, BC

Dr. Donna Nickitas is a Professor and Graduate Program Specialty Coordinator, Nursing Administration at Hunter College, Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing. She teaches across the nursing curriculum in the undergraduate, graduate and new Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS) at the CUNY Graduate Center. Dr. Nickitas has taught nursing leadership and management, nursing and societal forces, nursing college laboratory, gender, science, and technology, She held several key clinical nursing positions from staff nurse, head nurse, clinical director of maternal child health and in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps on active and reserve status. Dr. Nickitas is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Nursing Administration Advanced.

Dr. Nickitas holds several positions within Hunter College. She a member of the Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects, a member of the Faculty Personnel and Budget Committee, a member of the Divisional Personnel and Budget Committee for the Division of the Schools of the Health Profession and a member of the School of Nursing Personnel and Budget Committee. Dr. Nickitas has been a Faculty Fellow, Hunter College Center for Community and Urban Health and the receipt of many grants including a technology grant from the Jonas Center of Nursing Excellence, and a PSC-CUNY grant for School Based Nurses, Asthma and Information Competencies. Her other research includes a Helene Fuld Trust Grant in Service Learning and numerous technology grants in academic teaching and learning. She has been recently appointed to International Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, and International Service Learning Task Force (ISLTF) for the 2007-2009 biennium. Dr. Nickitas is Editor of Nursing Economic$ and an editorial board member of the Medical Surgical Nursing Journal.  She has authored numerous articles, chapters in books, and her own book, entitled, Quick Reference Guide to Nursing Leadership, 1997, Del Mar Publishers and is in contract with Jones and Bartlett for a health policy textbook, Being and Becoming a Policy Influential: Advocacy and Action for Nurses and Other Health Professionals (2009).   

Dr. Nickitas is a grassroots community activist and known for her civic engagement activities. She has held several leadership roles as president and board member on several local, state, and national non-for-profit organizations; including immediate past President of the League of Women Voters, Greenwich, Board Member of the Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association, and former Board Member of the Greenwich Coalition to Control Under-Age Drinking.
