Post-Master's Advance Certificate in Nursing Education

Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing of the City University of New York offers an advanced certificate nursing education program for registered nurses who hold a master's degree in nursing from an accredited school. This 13 credit certificate program prepares nurses for beginning positions as educators in both academic settings and health care agencies.  The courses are offered in four consecutive semesters during early evening hours and over the summer.  A previous graduate course in nursing theory is the pre-requisite to the first course, Nursing 730.

Course of Study
Courses progress from the teaching-learning process to program development and culminate with actual education practice.  The course on assessment covers educational measurement at the individual level.  Instructional design covers characteristics of the development and accreditation criteria including an observational experience and program presentations.  The Advanced Concepts course addresses breaking news in educational research and the use of technology to enhance education is stressed in all courses.  The last course is a practicum in nursing education.  Students are placed with experienced educators in community and senior colleges or departments of nursing education for 135 hours.  They will be expected to develop objectives that meet their unique professional goals and work closely with a designated preceptor.
