The Health Professions Library provides access 65 hours a week to the 26,328 books and 280 professional journals housed in its 10,000 square feet. In addition, full text articles from over 10,000 journals are accessible via the library’s electronic resources. The library provides seating for 220 (156 in the library and 64 in the two computer labs). These labs provide access to the Internet and various software applications from the general (word processing, spreadsheets, etc) to the specialized such as Epi info 2002, SAS and SPSS to support the needs of the faculty and students. The librarians lead an active instruction program providing bibliographic instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, all students and faculty in the City University have full access to all libraries in the CUNY system. City University includes more than 20 separate libraries and together contains seven million volumes, 30,000 periodicals and million of microforms, music scores, records, slides, tapes, videos and other materials.

Center for Nursing Research

The Center for Nursing Research (CNR) at Hunter College is evidence of the high value the school and the college place on the development of nurse researchers. The Center Director offers support to faculty in all stages of the research process, from conceptualization of research design through obtaining funding, implementation of the research project, data analysis and publication of findings. The Center also sponsors two Research Round Tables each semester at which faculty present their research and receive feedback from colleagues.
The Center also facilitates student research. Opportunities are provided to allow students to participate in research with faculty as research assistants. The Center also helps students present research posters at nursing conferences.
School of Nursing faculty are involved in many areas of nursing research including management of childhood asthma, HIV-prevention in adolescents, improving nursing education and issues relating to holistic nursing.

The Nursing Skills Laboratory

The Nursing Skills Laboratory, located on the Brookdale campus, offers an environment to practice fundamental medical techniques for undergraduate students. The Nursing Lab plays a key role in the physical assessment component of the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The main part of the lab has 3 rooms: an instructional demonstration area, the Joyce M. Hope Lab, which is a simulated hospital floor consisting of 10 patient bed units, and a separate model of an ambulatory care unit with 5 fully equipped patient stations. The Joyce M. Hope Lab was a recent addition to the Nursing Lab provided by alumni fundraising efforts. The Nursing Lab also houses the Viola Shiffrin Advanced Practice Lab, with 7 fully equipped assessment stations and a small conference area with complete internet and AV instructional capabilities.

The Office of Clinical Coordination assists professors in placing undergraduate and graduate students in clinical rotations throughout the academic year and during the summer months too. With over 150 contracted placement sites to choose from, students can oftentimes serve their clinical rotation in any borough of their choice, or even in Westchester and Orange County in northern New York. Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing has maintained relationships with agencies for several years from Staten Island to Stein Senior Center located within walking distance from the Brookdale campus. The great thing about our active agency list is that it continues growing. Some of our regular placement sites include, Bellevue Hospital, New York Harbor Healthcare System – Veteran Affairs, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NYU Medical Center, Elmhurst Hospital and Brooklyn Hospital, just to name a few.
