FAQ

1. What sort of work am I qualified to do when I graduate from this program?
The public health nutritionist is generally employed in the public sector, in local, state, or federal government health departments. Other employment options include the administration of community nutrition programs and work with private agencies interested in promoting nutrition and health education.

2. What kind of activities are included in the PHN Program?
Nutritional Epidemiology:
The study of nutrition and diet relationships to the etiology, pathogenesis and prevention of disease, e.g. diet and heart disease, diet and cancer.

Nutritional Surveillance:
The ongoing monitoring of the nutritional status of population groups, including dietary intake data, anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and environmental data.

Nutrition Policy Development and Implementation:
The utilization of data from a wide variety of sources in the formation of specific nutrition policy for specific population groups. e.g. dietary guidelines for the school-age child, or the allocation of limited nutrition resources to populations at greatest risk.

Community Nutrition:
The development of nutrition education programs/materials for specific populations.
