Public Health Nutrition is concerned with the promotion of
the nutritional well-being of population groups. The public health
nutritionist has earned the Masters degree in public health nutrition
from an accredited program and is often a registered dietitian (RD).
The public health nutritionist is generally employed in the public
sector, in local, state, or federal government health departments.
Other employment options include the administration of community
nutrition programs and work with private agencies interested in
promoting nutrition and health education.
The unique MPH degree program with a specialization in public
health nutrition is designed for individuals who want to develop the
skills necessary for advancement in a radically changed health care
environment. The program focuses on nutrition for vulnerable groups in
urban settings. The curriculum reflects the changing demographics of
metropolitan New York and the communications revolution, as well as
cutting-edge research in nutrition and food sciences. Up to 12 credits
of the 48-credit MPH curriculum may be waived for those with
demonstrated mastery of specific skills, as documented by the MD, RD or
other relevant professional credentials.
