The Teacher Academy

For over 138 years, teacher education
has been one of the strongest programs at
Hunter College. Hunter has played a crucial
role in the preparation of generations of
thoroughly trained, highly skilled, and
enlightened teachers to answer the needs
of the New York City public schools.

Today, Hunter College continues this
tradition as a partner in the Teacher
Academy initiative of the City University of
New York. The Teacher Academy provides
full tuition scholarships to outstanding high school graduates to prepare them to teach mathematics or science in New York City’s public schools. The program combines a major in the content subjects — math, biology, or chemistry at Hunter — with rigorous internships, placing students in public schools from their very first semester in college.
