Elizabeth Cardoso

Professor and MIND Alliance PI

Dr. Cardoso received her master's degree in counseling from Columbia University Teachers College and worked for two years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in the South Bronx in a residential drug treatment program. She is a liscensed psychologist in the States of New Jersey and New York and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She received her Ph.D. in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed a one-year clinical predoctoral psychology internship at Harvard University's, McLean Hospital and a postdoctoral psychology fellowship at Yale University's, Yale Psychiatric Institute. She has served as the President of the New York State Rehabilitation Counseling Assocation in 2002, the executive board of the National Council on Rehabilitation Education and on the American Psychological Association's Committee on Disability Issues in Psychology.

Robert Greenberg

Dean of Arts and Sciences (Acting)

Robert Greenberg joined Hunter College in 2008 as a Dean and a Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Anthropology. He received his Ph.D. from Yale Univeristy in 1991, and has taught at Yale, Georgetown, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was the director of UNC's Office of Distinguished Scholarships and was the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Haven before coming to Hunter. He is a specialist in South Slavic languages and linquistics, and has worked primarily on sociolinguistic issues in the former Yugoslavia. He has explored issues of language, nationalsim, and ethnicty identity both in Tito's Yugoslavia and in the years following Yugoslavia's breakup. His publications include numerous books and articles on South Slavic and Balkan Slavic topics. His most recent book, Language and Identity in the Balkans (Oxford University Press, 2004, second revised and expanded edition, 2008), received an award in 2005 for the best book in Slavic Linguistics from the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages. Dr. Greenberg has been a research fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and has held two Fulbright scholarships. In February 2010, he was awarded the William Clyde DeVane medal for excellence in teaching and scholarship from the Phi Betta Kappa chapter at Yale, and in September 2010 he was the recipient of a CUNY Diversity award.

Vanya Quinones-Jenab

Chair of the Department of Psychology and PI of BP-ENDURE

Prof. Quinones-Jenab has a broad background in behavioral neuroscience. Her research uses a multidisciplinary approach, spanning molecular endpoints to behavioral models, in order to understand how sex and gonadal hormones control activity of a neuron and thus behavioral responses to illicit drugs. Furthermore, for more than 10 years, she was the PI of the NIMH COR program (a training program aimed at fostering research training in mental health-related research). She also has graduated over 17 Ph.D. students and served as a mentor to more than 20 undergraduates in her group - most of whom have gone on to graduate programs. For 3 years Prof. Quinones-Jenab was the program head of the Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience Doctoral Program. She currently serves as a member of the Sterring Committee to SCORE at Brooklyn, MBRS-RISE at Hunter, COR at Hunter, SciMON at Hunter, and MIDARP at City College of CUNY. In addition, she is the Chair of the Department of Psychology at Hunter.

Sudi Shayesteh

Director

Sudi Shayesteh has an extensive background in learning disabilities with a focus on transitional issues effecting bilingual and bicultural college students. Her first collaborative academic publication, "Identifying Options", was published at New York City College of Technology during 1999; a more comprehensive version of this guideline addressing the career needs of all associate degree students with disabilities within the City University of New York was published during 2003. Sudi has a Masters of Science in Education and is a liscensed Bilingual School Psychologist with NYS license in Mental Health Counseling. Currently she is an active member of the Behavioral Response Team, Children's Learning Center, and Advising and Resources committees at Hunter College. She co-chaired the CUNY Committee on Students with Disabilities Issues (COSDI) during 2008-2011 and served as the Interm Director of Office of Personal Counseling Services at Hunter College during 2007-2009.

Ariella Soffer

Intake Coordinator

Ariella Soffer received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fordham University. She received her M.A. from Fordham University and her B.A. from Brandeis University. She has trained at Bronx Children's Psychiatric Center, Karen Horney Clinic, and Fordham University Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Soffer currently works at Hunter College in the counseling Service as the  Intake Coordinator. Dr. Soffer's dissertation research was in the area of sport psychology and she has conducted research projects with youth sport teams to assess coaching effectiveness and specific benefits of team sports. Currently, Dr. Soffer is principal investigator on several ongoing projects that are aimed at characterizing the clinical severity of depression and suicidal ideation in a college counseling center population. She has taught several undergraduate courses at Fordham University, including Abnormal Psychology, Psychology of Drugs Use and Abuse, and Research Methods. Dr. Soffer is a member of the American Psychological Association, the New York State Psychological Association and American Association of Sport Psychology.
