Study Skills for Budding Scientists, Gene Center

The Gene Center's Study skills for Budding Scientists offers helpful study tips and connects you easily with valuable online resources. This site provides information and tools you can use to:

  • gain insight on how you study 
  • enhance your current study practices
  • learn about new techniques
  • improve your scientific communication


Socrates Center, Department of Biological Sciences

The Socrates Center is a multimedia learning center for biology students. Non-biology students may use the Center as well. It is a quiet place to study, connect with other students and utilize a number of computer, audiovisual and printed resources. Students may also use our computers to write papers, check e-mail and browse the Internet. In addition, BIOL 100/102 instructors hold their office hours in the Center. Tutoring in biology is also available.


The Mary P. Dolciani Mathematics Learning Center 

The Dolciani Mathematics Learning Center offers many support services in mathematics. At the center students have access to: 

  • tutoring services for various math and stastistics courses
  • multimedia materials on most statistics courses
  • a reference library 
  • help with study skills in mathematics


Physical Sciences Learning Center

The Physical Sciences Learning Center provides individual tutoring on a walk-in basis for students enrolled in physics, chemistry and astronomy courses. Workshops and group tutoring sessions are also offered for select topics. State-of-the-art computers with Internet service and appropriate programs are readily available. An extensive library containing physical science textbooks, problem solution manuals, and videos are also provided for students. The Center encourages students to learn and work with their peers. 


The Hunter College Reading/Writing Center

The Hunter College Reading/Writing Center is a comprehensive service for the entire community, offering tutorial and computer-assisted instruction to students and technical support and development to faculty and students.  Students can receive tutoring in reading and writing skills, critical reading and the writing process.
