7th Annual Research Day a Success!

With a record breaking 56 poster entries and an engaging presentation by Keynote Speaker Dr. Marita G. Titler, the 7th annual Research Day, held on Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 was successful!

Research Day May 8, 2013

E015 and E016 Classroom Renovations
The HPEC is working together with ICIT to renovate computer labs E015 and E016, which were heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy. New computers and equipment are being installed and the rooms will soon be reopened for faculty and student use.

Honoring the lifetime achievements of Joyce C. Clifford, The film "NURSES, If Florence Could See Us Now" explores the complex, exciting and challenging world of being a nurse in today's society. The HPEC has returned to the 25th Street Brookdale Campus location. We will be open at Brookdale during our regular hours (M-Th 9am-9pm, F 9am-5pm).

NYSIM Center Welcomes Mr. Martin Dornbaum as a New Member of the Advisory Council!

Mr. Martin Dornbaum, HPEC Director, has been appointed a member of the Advisory Council for the New York Simulation Center (NYSIM). As a member of the Advisory Council, he will be responsible for formulating, prioritizing and achieving new goals for NYSIM. Congratulations Mr. Dornbaum!

Grand Opening of the New ORGS/CNR Conference Room!

Dean McCain and Prof. Roye (above) along with Hunter faculty and staff celebrated the completion of the new ORGS/CNR conference room with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 5th, 2012.  The renovated space now houses a host of multimedia tools including a flat screen HDTV, a computer, a DVD/VHS system, and multiple web conferencing platforms.

Congratulations to Mr. Martin Dornbaum on his new appointment as a member of the Advisory Council to the Center for Health Media and Policy (CHMP).  Mr. Dornbaum will continue his work with public health advocates to influence and improve health care policies with the strategic use of media and research.
   

HPEC Computer Lab Facelift

Computer Lab #3 has received a major facelift and will reopen for student use at the start of the semester.  Many thanks to Mr. Dan Silletti for facilitating the room renovations!

Welcome Mr. Peter Marquez Jr.
The HPEC welcomes Mr. Peter Marquez Jr. as the newest member of its evening staff. Peter is a media specialist, film producer and director. Some of his recent works include Barbasol, a film on mental illness, and other documentaries and shorts such as Serenity and Men or Mice.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for New ORGS/CNR Conference Room!

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new ORGS/CNR conference room in W405 will be held on September 5th, 2012 at 12:30pm. The completed room will house a host of multimedia tools including a flat screen HDTV, a computer, a DVD/VHS system, and multiple web conferencing platforms.

The AcademyHealth Student Chapter at Hunter College is sponsoring an in depth discussion on Constitutionality, Prevention, etc.  Special guests Dr. John McDonough, former Senior Adviser to the US Senate HELP Committee, Frances Paris and Bill Martin, Esq. from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will be speaking.

New Enhanced Classroom!
The East Lounge has been converted to an Enhanced Classroom and currently houses two projectors, a computer, and a DVD/VHS system.

The Hunter College IRB will be holding a "Cookies and Comments" session in the Osborne Room on October 26, 2010 from 2-4pm.  The session is open to both faculty and students.

New Conference Room
Room W628 has been converted to a new conference space.  The room is now a Level 2 classroom and houses a computer, flatscreen monitor, and DVD/VHS system.

Upgrades for Summer 2009
Over the course of the summer, HPEC will be updating more classrooms with computer stations, projectors, and other instructional equipment.  The rooms scheduled for upgrades include W401, W601, W603, W605, W203, W204, and W205. All classrooms with embedded technology will also offer laptop connectivity, allowing for faculty and students to use their own laptops if desired.  HPEC remains committed to making improvements to ensure faculty and students have access to the f.

Video recording of SON's meeting on Medication Errors and Needlestick Injuries is now available on DVD (Call#8155). All Nursing 312 and Nursing 412 students who have missed the meeting should watch this DVD.


Preventing Needlestick Injuries in Healthcare Settings

Preventing Medication Errors
Another extremely serious concern for early-career nurses and nursing students is how to prevent medication errors.  This video can serve as a refresher prior to beginning working in a clincal or hospital setting.

RN Practice Exam for a Limited Time
The Alternate-Item RN Practice Examination will be available on a limited license from March 25, 2009 until April 8, 2009 at the HPEC Computer Lab. Please make an appointment at the front desk and we will provide you with an exam code. This exam features NCLEX-style questions which will be graded by the National League for Nursing (NLN). You must complete this exam by the license expiration date. Good Luck!

New Enhanced Classrooms
Rooms W202, W218, and W403 have been upgraded with new equipment. Rooms W202 (Nutrition Lab) and W218 are equipped with a projector, a computer with internet access, and VHS & DVD capability. W403 has a flat-screen television in lieu of a projector, a computer with internet access, and VHS & DVD capability. Please refer to our Classroom Comparison Chart for additional information.
