The Program in Urban Public Health, accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health since 1972, prepares health educators to plan and manage community health programs to reduce social and behavioral threats to health such as asthma, HIV infection, infant mortality, and violence. Graduates work as managers, administrators, researchers, planners, health educators, environmental and occupational health specialists, public health nutritionists, and community health nurses in diverse locations including health facilities, public and public agencies, businesses, and community organizations locally, nationally and internationally.

The Program is designed for working people. Classes meet in the late afternoon and evening, Monday through Thursday. With a focus on applied knowledge in addition to research, many assignments allow students to complete research projects at their work site. As a result, classmates are colleagues involved in front-line public health practice, research and management.

Our students include both experienced health and social service professionals, individuals seeking a career change, and recent college graduates. In the last 25 years, more than 1,500 public health professionals have graduated from Hunter's programs. Our alumni are now leaders and managers in every major health agency in the region, providing a network of support for new graduates.

A UPH email list has been set up to enhance student/ program communications. All students, matriculated and non-matriculated, should subscribe. Sign up here.
