Example Curriculum For A Hypothetical Student

Here is a hypothetical student who graduated with a degree in the humanities. She has no un-dergraduate coursework in science and nutrition, although she has already attained the ex-pected competencies from courses that fulfill the standard General Education Requirements (writing, psychology, economic, and statistics). She has decided to pursue a career in dietet-ics and is now enrolled full-time as a "second degree" student.

Indicated in the table below is a sample template of the coursework required in order for her to complete the DPD with a minimum of undergraduate work and a maximum of graduate work that can be credited towards the MPH degree. Undergraduate courses are italicized; graduate courses are underlined.

It would take this minimally prepared student four years, excluding summers, to earn an MPH in Pubic Health Nutrition and be eligible to sit for the registration examination.

Academic standards
Second degree students must meet the same standards as undergraduate NFS majors and graduate students pursuing the MPH degree. Students must attain a grade of grade of B or better in every 100-level NFS course, a grade of C or better in every 300- and 400-level NFS course and every course taken in the Biology and Chemistry Departments, and a grade of B or better in every 700-level MPH course.
