Information about Transferring to New Tracks: EPI-BIO & HPM

If you are currently enrolled as an MPH student in Urban Public Health and are interested in one of these new tracks, you will need to transfer from your current track to the new track. This page contains information on how to do this. If you would like to talk with a faculty member in person about transferring, please come to one of the information sessions: April 14 or May 1.



Transferring to the & Epidemiology & Biostatistics
(EPI-BIOS) Track

Students who wish to transfer should follow these steps:

Transferring to the Public Health and Management (HPM) Track

Students who wish to transfer should follow these steps:

1. Intention to Transfer: If you are interested in being considered for transfer to the EPI-BIOS tracks:

a. Please notify your academic advisor when you meet with him/her during the upcoming advisement period (March 25 – April 11, 2008).

b. Please complete the “Intention to Transfer” form which can be downloaded here on or before April 30th 2008 and the attached form available for download here to effect the transfer

c. If you are currently a non-matriculated MPH student, you must complete a Hunter graduate application available for download from Hunter's Admissions website On the application write your track of interest (HPM or EPI-BIOS). The application deadline for has been extended to June 2nd for these new tracks only.

2. Admissions requirements for the EPIBIO track: In addition to the general admission requirements for the MPH program, EPI-BIOS applicants:

a.) are expected to demonstrate evidence of quantitative abilities – such as college level algebra with a grade of B or better; ≥550 on quantitative and ≥4.5 on analytical portions of the GREs; or similar evidence of quantitative abilities;

b.) should have at least one year of paid or volunteer work experience in public health research or a related field.

3. Additional considerations: If you have already completed a substantial number of courses in an existing MPH track, you will likely graduate with more than the required 48 credits if you decide to transfer. Alternatively, you may select EPI-BIOS or HPM coursesto fulfill your current track elective requirements , provided you meet prerequisites.

Please Note: EOHS-MS students must complete and pay for a new admissions application as it is a change of degree from MS to MPH.

1. Intention to Transfer: a. Matriculated MPH students in UPH may be eligible to transfer from their current track to the track in HPM.

a. Please notify your academic advisor when you meet with him/her during the upcoming advisement period (March 25 – mid-April, 2008).

b. Please complete the “Intention to Transfer” form which can be downloaded here on or before April 30th 2008 and the attached form available for download here to effect the transfer

b. Non-matriculated MPH students wishing to enter the track in HPM must first apply for matriculation to HPM Admissions website The completed application is due on or before June 2, 2008.

2. Additional admissions requirements: In addition to the general admission requirements for the MPH program, HPM applicants are expected to have at least 3 undergraduate or graduate courses (9 credits) in one or more of the following disciplines: economics, accounting, business administration, public policy, urban affairs and political science.
