Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, Dr. De Jesús has experience as a social work practitioner, administrator and researcher in urban schools, community based organizations, and institutions of higher education.

 

From 2005-2007 he was Interim Director of the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College where he also served as a Researcher Associate in Education Policy from 2003-2005.

 

Dr. De Jesús' research focuses primarily on addressing the social and cultural barriers which prevent Latino and African American students from accessing post secondary educational experiences and successfully transitioning to higher education. 

 

Dr. De Jesús' professional interests include Community and School based Social Work Practice, the History of Puerto Rican/Latino Education Organizing/Activism for School Reform and the Sociology of Education.
