Field Education Office

The Office of Field Education is responsible for all aspects of the field practicum and for advisement during the student’s tenure in the School. The field office staff develop and monitor practicum sites, certify field instructors through the SIFI program (see Field Practicum Manual)and monitor the performance of students in the field. The Office of Field Education seeks to develop and maintain relationships with agencies that will assure a field practicum of high quality for MSW students. The fieldwork coordinators work with students, advisors, agency representatives including field instructors and educational coordinators, throughout the field practicum experience. The Office of Field Education has the responsibility for selecting agencies with which to affiliate based on the agency’s ability to support the mission of the School.

The primary purpose of the field practicum is to enable students to develop competence in practice skills within the framework of social work values and ethics. In fulfillment of this purpose, the field practicum provides opportunities for students to perform social work tasks under the supervision of a field instructor and encourages the integration and application of concepts and principles learned in both the classroom and the practicum agency.

The Field Practicum Manual provides a complete description of the fieldwork program at Hunter College School of Social Work. Evaluation Forms are available on-line and provide the format for evaluation of student performance by certified field instructors in our affiliated agencies. The Field Work Calendar is available for students, field instructors, and agency representatives for information about important dates such as the beginning of fieldwork, last date of fieldwork, and the due dates for evaluations. Scheduled holidays and common days are also found on the Field Work Calendar
