Proposal Writing and Grant Implementation

This course will provide a detailed overview of program planning, proposal writing and grant implementation. Participants will learn about the complete grant cycle. The following areas will be covered: components of program design, what to look for in prospective funding sources and the different types, understanding the elements of a proposal, creating budgets and reporting to funding agencies. Attention will be given to what makes programs and proposals most effective and the differences between private and government funding proposals. Participants will gain knowledge in the various stages from an initial idea, to requesting support to implement the project, and managing a grant.

About the Instructor:

Angelie Singla, LMSW is a development professional with over ten years of experience in the non-profit sector. Currently, she is the Vice President, Philanthropy at Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City. She is responsible for retaining and growing the existing portfolio of foundation and government partnerships. Previously, as Assistant Director, Program and Resource Development at the Fund for Public Health in New York, Angelie submitted several successful federal, state, foundation and corporate grant applications ranging from $40,000 to $15.5 million. While in graduate school, she worked at Palladia, Inc., UJA-Federation of New York, Sakhi for South Asian Women, and Coalition for Asian American Children and Families. Prior to that, she was a Site Director/Parent Coordinator at the Queens Community House, where she developed and facilitated programs, classes, and workshops for students, parents and staff. Prior to her work in the non-profit sector, she was the Director of Operations for a company that owns airport concessions. Angelie is a member of the Selection Committee for the New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards and the Co-Chair of the Scholarship Committee of the New York City Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is a member of Women in Development and volunteers as a Career Coach. She has served on the Board of Directors of Community Mediation Services and as a Team Leader for the Grants Advisory Committee of the New York Women's Foundation. She earned a MSW in Social Enterprise Administration from Columbia University and a BA in Management from Pace University.
