Intzar Singh
A Hunter United


Intzar Singh is currently a junior majoring in Mathematics and Theatre. He is passionate about providing a memorable college experience to the students of Hunter College. This past year, he helped over 80 clubs and on campus organizations with their budgeting and financial paperwork. During his time in USG, which started in his sophomore year, he has seen the many successes of USG but also areas where we could improve. If elected president of the student government, he hopes to continue making important changes that will allow all elected officials to serve the Hunter students better.

It's no shock that Hunter students are hardworking but is Hunter College working hard for its students? Hunter College could do more to provide a better and more fulfilling experience to its students. How many students can say that they or their fellow students have school spirit? My goal is to enhance Hunter's good qualities and fix its negative ones. I'd work with the students and leaders of the community to create more opportunities and events for students in order to improve their experience and bolster school spirit. Helen Polanco is currently a junior majoring in Human Biology, pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant. When she isn't visiting club rooms to address club leaders concerns, or providing an event for students to socialize like Game Day, Club fair or food giveaways, she spends her time volunteering at Bellevue Hospital. As the current Cultural Affairs commissioner, she has done her best to provide a voice for students. If elected as Vice President, she hopes to expand the amazing opportunities available to students and continue to fight for and serve the undergraduate community of Hunter College.

Saifeldeen Zihiri

Saifeldeen Zihiri is a junior majoring in Political Science and Religion, with a certificate in Human Rights. A member of both Peer Health Exchange and Scholars at Risk, he has played an active role within the Hunter community. In his current position as Junior Senator, he has advocated for more accountability in student government. As Student Welfare Commissioner, he hopes to establish a mental health initiative within Hunter, so students can receive the resources that they need both inside and outside of Hunter. Secondly, he wishes to establish more bystander intervention programs to effectively combat sexual assault on campus.

Phuong Vo is running for the External Affairs Commissioner position for USG. She is double majoring in biology and art and has been involved with various organizations on campus such as the Olivetree Review, the USG Ambassador program, and the College Association. Her service on USG this year includes advocating for student voices on the Student Activities Fee through policy and helping redesign USG's website. As a two year member for the External Affairs Committee, Phuong understands the responsibility and significance of connecting the undergraduate student body to USG. If elected, she plans to increase student involvement with USG activities.

Yasin Ahmed

Yasin Ahmed is double majoring in Math and Human Biology. He has served as part of the Undergraduate Student Government for two years in various positions, from an ambassador, a College Association member, and is currently the Student Welfare Commissioner. In his current position, he leads the Students Stand Up Campaign against Sexual Assault, hosted record breaking blood drives, and certified over 400 students in Mental Health trainings. As Finance Commissioner, he strives to work closely with students, ensuring they receive proper funding. He aims to hold multiple workshops to educate students on how to access their budgeting resources efficiently.

Kamalpreet Kaur is a junior, majoring in Human Biology and hopes to pursue a career in the healthcare field. As the Cultural Affairs Commissioner, she wants to provide the Hunter Community with opportunities to come together through events and activities and enjoy their Hunter experience. She believes that the clubs at Hunter are very meaningful to the student body, as they bring together cultures and communities. Being a student and a member of a club herself, she understands the value of having your voice heard, and wants to work closely with members to ensure their comments and concerns are addressed.

As someone who has been in Hunter for three years, I consider it my home. I want to focus on clubs that need funding for their events. I believe we should have more clubs to celebrate the diversity of our college. I want Hunter to be more sportive. We should have more time for every sport and make facilities for sports that are not available right now. I want to help the incoming freshmen and transfer students who need help yet cannot get it because of the lack of communication. Together we can fulfill our dreams.

Vivian Chen

Vivian Chen is running for the Evening Affairs Commissioner position for the Hunter College USG. She is a junior majoring in geography on the GIS track and minoring in media. Vivian has served on USG for two years, as Senate Chair and on the Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation. She has hosted two successful events this semester, one of which includes the February Town Hall, where students asked questions and voiced concerns about their undergraduate student government. As Evening Affairs Commissioner, Vivian hopes to continue organizing traditional Hunter events, and also include more social and engaging opportunities for students.

Savannah Nester

Savannah Nester is currently a junior, running for the position of Residence Life Commissioner at Hunter College. She is majoring in computer science, and minoring in mathematics and geography. She plans to pursue a career as a software engineer. As a TA for the computer science department, she understands how to tailor resources for individual needs, help students progress, and assess work. As Commissioner, she plans to improve communication and instill a greater sense of community among Hunter and the Brookdale, 92Y and 97th street dormitories, while coordinating multiple events and activities for the students to partake in.

Noah Silversmith is a sophomore in the Macaulay Honors program, running for the position of Residence Life Commissioner. Majoring in Chemistry, he aspires to pursue a PhD upon graduating. Having experience as a Brookdale student ambassador and being an active member in the Brookdale Residence Hall, he hopes to foster the same sense of community within all residence halls through exciting events and trips. Understanding the importance of dorm life to Hunter students, he intends on bringing his passion to a community that deserves an effective leader that genuinely cares about the students.

Michelle Rangel is a senior at Hunter College running for Senior Senator. She is majoring in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience. Michelle served in student government as a member of FSDC in the Cultural Affairs and External Affairs Committees. As a member of the Hunter Fencing team, she values student life and fostering school spirit. She is committed to creating a closer, transparent community and celebrating diversity. She values cultural and social activities for the student body. As a member of the Senate, Michelle plans to hold the position with integrity and improve communication within Hunter.

Mariam Ahmed is a junior majoring in psychology and human biology with the goal of going to graduate school to pursue a career in healthcare. When she is not studying for midterms she is watching movies and on coffee runs. Being a Hunter college student for the past three years and a former member of the student government she knows the concerns and interests of her colleagues. If elected for senior senator she will do her best to improve everyone's experience in Hunter College by voicing the priorities of the student body to the best of her ability.

Jamie Cabigas

Jamie is an ideal candidate for senior senator because she is wholeheartedly dedicated to bettering the Hunter experience for undergraduate students. She is no stranger to USG and has served for two years. In her FSDC and senator positions, she has helped plan and run events, including Club Fair and Welcome Week. Her primary goals for the 2018-2019 academic year is to help start more student run projects, and increase resources for students. Apart from USG, she strives to be a well-rounded individual, and some of her passions include science, fitness, travel, and her culture.

Who am I? Hamza Sadhra. What position am I running for? Senior Senator. Throughout my time at Hunter, I have found a warm, welcoming, and supportive sense of community. I found a home in Brookdale, where I am an RA, helping residents find their way to living on their own. I gained strength through my teammates on the Tennis Team representing Hunter on the court. I have found purpose promoting health equity in classrooms throughout NYC at PHE. I am looking to build the same sense of community for Hunter as Senior Senator. I hope I have your vote.

Daniyal is a junior majoring in Human Biology and minoring in Chemistry. He is a pre-med student and has worked with the Pre-Health Organization since freshman year. He has also served as a Student Ambassador, providing tours of Hunter College to prospective students. His experience from serving as a Student Ambassador and working for the Pre-Health Organization has allowed him to learn about the ins and outs of Hunter College. He plans to use that knowledge and experience to help enhance your student experience by serving as Junior Senator.

I am running to be your Junior Senator. I would be honored to represent the Hunter community and work towards promoting your interests. Hunter is such a diverse school, and I believe that by embracing and learning from our diverse student body we can help Hunter grow into a better place. I understand the difficulty in finding a community at Hunter, especially since it is a commuter school, but I hope to help foster a sense of community. If elected, I will dedicate my time as Senator to helping and advancing the interests of as many people as possible.

As a member of the Undergraduate Student Government, I am confident that I can improve the quality of student life on campus. As a junior at Hunter College, I have sufficient experience understanding the concerns of the students, and I will impartially speak on behalf of the undergraduates' concerns. My chief priorities will be to determine a consensus of the main issues voted by the students and to find prompt resolutions. I look forward to representing all of the students to the best of my abilities if I were elected as one of the undergraduate senators.

In Hunter, individuals are not aware of the possible student aid programs that are here to assist you. We should focus on the lack of information Hunter is distributing to the student population about student aid programs. I plan to bring awareness of any beneficiary programs available to the students. I will work toward the promotion of any free activities and services available in the school for all students. I will also protect and represent your interests as Hunter students, your voice and concerns. Your vote, your opinions, and your decisions will help students succeed at Hunter.

Nicolette Pinto

Nicolette Pinto is a junior studying Political Science. She is seeking re-election to the Senate, in hopes to represent the junior class. She plans to continue the distribution of campus-wide services from the 2016 referendum, like the Purple PEERiod Project and Participatory Budgeting. Her experience with USG allows her to lead the continued execution of these projects. She aims to maintain a transparency in communication between the student body, USG, and the administration. If elected, she looks forward to maximizing the potential of USG in serving the students not only for the 2018-2019 academic year, but for years to come.

Alexander Poulakis

Alex is a sophomore on the pre-med track with a History major and French minor. He loves to get involved at Hunter, as he is currently a Peer Mentor, a Student Ambassador, and the President of the Artemis Hellenic Club. As Junior Senator, he hopes to expand his involvement and utilize the skills he has gained from these experiences, including responsibility, public speaking, and leadership, in USG to make great contributions to the student body. In addition, Alex hopes to increase participation by students in USG and improve conditions of club affairs.

My name is Sol-Marie Quintero and I am running for Junior Senator. As a second time Independent candidate, I hope to return to the Senate and continue forming relationships with students while advocating for the Hunter community's needs. Moreover, I continue to believe in the importance of continuing a transparent dialogue between the students and the Undergraduate Student Government. I encourage that as Hunter students we should reflect and celebrate the diversity and promise that we have to offer; this will allow us to gain perspective on how to best achieve our goals.

Francesca Royal

Francesca Royal is a junior majoring in Economics and Public Policy, and a member of Hunter's Track and Field team. She currently serves as a Sophomore Senator in USG, and as the Vice Chair for Fiscal Affairs in the CUNY University Student Senate, where she fights against tuition increases, advocates for increased funding for CUNY, and defends students' rights. During her 2 years in USG, Francesca launched a Voter Awareness campaign, and helped organize countless food giveaways, events, and parties. If re-elected, Francesca hopes to continue to advocate for students, increase transparency from USG, and foster a vibrant campus life!

My name is Shanjeed Ali. I'm currently a freshman and plan to major in chemistry. I am running for the position of Sophomore Senator. I am running because there are several things about Hunter College that I would like to see improved. The main improvement that I would like to see is an increase in school engagement. I believe that the best way to do this is to foster communities within Hunter. With this goal in mind, if elected, I plan to prioritize clubs and student activities by making information about these things easily accessible and actively advertising them.

Nafiul would like to run for Sophomore Senator, because he wants to work with you to make sure that Hunter College is an environment that represents you, makes you feel safe, and gives you the best college experience. Nafiul honestly does not believe he is the best candidate, because there are so many hard working students with great initiatives, and beliefs at campus. He just believes that he can be someone who can work hard with you to make Hunter College a great chapter in your life, and stay with you for a long time in your best of memories.

Gillian Blanco is a sophomore majoring in Human Biology running for the position of Sophomore Senator. She is on the Pre-Physician Assistant track hoping to pursue a career within the medical field. Gillian has spent the last year with USG as a Student Ambassador working with the Cultural Affairs Committee in planning and setting up events. In addition, Gillian is also a member of the UNICEF club and Gift of Life. As a Sophomore Senator, Gillian hopes to further connect and engage with the Hunter student body in order to give Hunter students the greatest possible experiences.

As a member of USG, she wants to work on fostering a campus environment that assures a positive experience for everyone. Julia Hidalgo is a sophomore majoring in Human Biology with the goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. When she is not studying for her classess, Julia can be found attending Hunter College events to better familiarize hersilf with her colleagues. During her past two years at Hunter, she has gotten a better understanding of her fellow colleagues priorities and interests. If elelcted Senator, she will implement and voice the concerns of others to the best of her abilities. Darin is looking to educate the Hunter community about helping those needing medical attention. She also strives to help students understand that they are not alone on their journeys and that the students can work together to achieve their goals.

Karim is currently a freshman who is majoring in Biochemistry and plans to pursue a medical and research career. As a student ambassador, she has worked with the External Affairs Committee to increase student engagement through virtual platforms and volunteered for multiple school wide events, working alongside the Office of Student Activities, which instilled in her the values of responsibility and dedication. As Freshman Senator, she hopes to make a better college experience for the undergraduate student population by actively listening to them and representing them, while promoting civic engagement through educational and recreational activities and opportunities.

Rebecca Mezistrano, current sophomore at Hunter College, is majoring in Media Studies and is especially fascinated by the world of digital media. She is running for the position of Auxiliary Enterprise Commissioner. As she has previously held this position at the Undergraduate Student Government, Rebecca understands the importance of providing the voice of fellow students when working closely with corporations connected to Hunter. Elise Wang is currently a freshman who is working towards a major in Psychology and a minor in Public Policy. She plans on pursuing a career in the medical field and volunteers at Mt.Sinai by providing patient care. She is also a member of the Hunter Has Heart, a leadership cohort which focuses on food advocacy. After successfully partnering with GrowNYC and creating a trial Fresh Food Box site at Hunter, she hopes to be able to use her experience dealing with facilities and external services to improve the Hunter College experience through the AEC committee.

Raymer Contreras is currently a junior, running for a position on the College Association at Hunter College. He is majoring in computer science, minoring in journalism and mathematics and hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in machine learning. He is passionate about helping others and believes that computer science will allow him to maximize his impact. Raymer is committed to creating a community at Hunter that is more inviting and enables greater academic success. I'm running for a seat on the College Association because I will make it my job to tear down the red tape that stops students from receiving money from their own budget. I want the student body to access the student activity fee that is rightfully owed to us. This board should be completely made up of students, but I will do my best to fill those positions that could not be there. I am running for the students to represent students because I believe students know exactly how to spend their student activity fee best.

Kiran Javaid is an enthusiastic USG member who is very excited to be a candidate for the College Association. As a CA member, Kiran promises to work with her fellow members to improve legislation for student activity fees to maximize its availability and usage. Kiran promises to be all ears to all undergraduate students, stay brave in the face of opposition, and stay true to what the student body wants! Kiran hopes to be an effective liaison between the administration and all students by trying her best to minimize barriers, expedite budgeting processes, and make student voices heard.

Jose is a freshman declared as a Psychology major, planning to pursue a Sociology major and is writing a book. He'd be the best fit for the College Association position because of his high school experience. He fought for two years against the administration in order to fix issues that existed, like their shortcomings in teaching students how to learn versus taking a test and general communication. I'm running for a seat on the College Association because the decisions made on it need to be determined by students. As a member of the board of directors of NYPIRG, as a legal advocacy intern at the Welfare Rights Initiative at Hunter College, and as a human being, I'm passionate about protecting students' rights by ensuring that students remain autonomous in deciding where our Student Activity Fees - our money - is spent. It would be an honor to be able to utilize the CA platform to continue to fight for student power.

Frederick Yen is currently a junior majoring in Biology at Hunter College. His dedication to USG and passion for service has pushed him to run for the College Association position. During his time in USG, he served as an ambassador, assisting in events such as Winter Wonderland and Just Desserts. Frederick was then promoted to the position of FSDC, where he continues to contribute to USG. If elected, Frederick hopes to use insightful ideas to advocate for student access to the Student Activities Fund. After Hunter, he plans to pursue a career as a physician-scientist.

She served on USG throughout the 2017-2018 school year, and is seeking re-election as a member of the Faculty Student Disciplinary Committee. As a member of USG, Hadar has collaborated with her peers on several school wide events. She hopes to continue in her contributions to the campus culture, and to work with her fellow students to provide support for the wonderful Hunter community.

Taqib Hemal is currently a sophomore at Hunter College. He is running for the position of Faculty Student Disciplinary Committee for USG. He is currently majoring in Biology in the pre-med track. He plans to have a career as a Physician. As a former USG Ambassador, he will continue to help improve Hunter College and enhance the relationship between the student body and USG. He understands that the students of Hunter College expect much more than they already have. He is willing to fight for solutions to any and all of the problems that may arise at Hunter College.

My name is Olivia Mittman I am running for the position of Faculty Student Disciplinary Committee member for the upcoming academic year. I have been a member of USG for three years, and I believe my experience has qualified me to continue to serve the student body. This year I served on FSDC, and took part in training sessions to better understand the rules of student conduct, and what constitutes a violation. I hope to apply my training towards sexual assault awareness, working to ensure that the proper procedures are in place to both handle and help prevent such cases.

Madonna is a junior majoring in anthropology with a minor in biology. After spending the past two semesters as a student ambassador, Madonna grew attached to USG and its efforts to unite the Hunter student body through entertaining events. Madonna enjoys giving back, whether it is by volunteering at a hospital, helping the homeless, or tutoring fellow Hunter students. And as someone who struggled to find her niche, Madonna now wants to give back to the Hunter community by creating an inclusive and fun environment.

Olivier is a sophomore majoring in political science, with a minor focused on human rights and is running for a position on the Faculty Student Disciplinary Committee. The past four semesters at Hunter created a desire for deeper involvement in student life, especially in USG. Olivier participated in student life and studied the structures of government while interacting with the diverse student body of Hunter College. Through these experiences, Olivier is capable as a candidate of representing the diverse communities existing in Hunter. Olivier pledges to pursue an agenda which creates vibrant student life inclusive of LGBT and POC communities.

Theresa Vu is a freshman Muse scholar with an intended Art History major. She was a Fine Arts major at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts and plans to minor in Studio Art at Hunter. As an active Hunter student, she attends various USG events and aims to continue her efforts to stay engaged with Hunters community.
