DEAN OF STUDENTS / VP STUDENT AFFAIRS
Initiatives & Programs
The Dean of Students' Office is committed to cultivating and maintaining student-focused programs and services. Our office spearheads numerous efforts within the Division of Student Affairs. We also partner with other areas throughout the Hunter Community to create college-wide initiatives and programs.
Hunter College has a long history of academic excellence. The Dean's Office collaborates with the Division of Academic Affairs to implement programs and services that uphold the College's academic standards, motivate scholar cohorts, and support student retention.
Commencement is a monumental milestone in the lives of our students and a source of tremendous pride for their families. We coordinate two graduation ceremonies each academic year (Winter and Spring), and a variety of related events including, Commencement Countdown, Hunter's two-day graduation fair, ticket distribution, and faculty participation.
Emergency Support and Resource Referral
Our primary responsibility is to assist students in achieving their educational goals, which includes helping students address and resolve a variety of challenges that may arise along the way. The Dean's Office provides support to students having personal emergencies and issues that may hinder their academic pursuits. When appropriate, we help identify and recommend institution-based and external resources to support students.
Hunter College Mentor Program
Hunter's alumni have made their mark in virtually every field, including the arts, business, education, law, medicine, health-care, science, and social work. Through a collaboration with Office of Alumni Relations, we manage a Mentor Program that connects current students with a diverse group of Hunter alumni and friends of the College. The program includes formal and informal events that promote career exploration, networking and professional development opportunities.
Our office provides support to students who need assistance or guidance in matters concerning Hunter and CUNY regulations, policies and procedures. We serve as a student advocate by ensuring compliance with policies and also function as an ombudsman to resolve student complaints.
Our goal is to ensure that all students feel that they are a part of the Hunter community. Each year we host Welcome Week, Hunter College's multiple-day event that kicks off the academic year with greetings, snacks, Student Life's first carnival of the academic year and, when needed, directions and support for incoming students. Welcome Week events culminate with Hunter College's New Student Convocation ceremony to welcome freshman and transfer students.
