|Under the auspices of the Office of AccessABILITY, the Access & Technology Center offers adaptive technology and individualized computer training for students with disabilities.

PC and Mac computers offer a range of basic accessibility features and advanced assistive technologies designed to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
ZoomText Magnifier/Screen Reader (PC): software designed specifically to meet the needs of the visually impaired. The ZoomText family includes two adaptive technologies—screen magnification and screen reading—providing complete access to all windows applications.
Jaws (PC):screen reading software that provides access to today’s software applications and the Internet.
Kurzweil 1000: an advanced scanning and reading solution for the blind or visually impaired.
kurzweil 3000 (Mac and PC): a scanning, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities or reading difficulties.
Mavis Beacon: a software that teaches typing and improves one’s typing speed and accuracy.
Resume Deluxe: an integrated resume builder and job seeking tool.
Read & Write Gold: helps students with learning disabilities improve their reading and writing skills with a comprehensive set of literacy tools.
Dragon Naturally Speaking (PC), Via Voice and IListen (Mac): speech recognition software which converts spoken words into computerized text through the use of microphones.
Hardware Devices for Blind and Visually Impaired Students
|VersaPoint Duo: allows computerized text to be reproduced in hard-copy braille format.|
|Perkins Braille Writer: a typewriter that blind and visually impaired individuals use to type in braille.|
|ClearView 700 computer compatible CCTV: allows a student to use a CCTV and a computer at the same time.|
|ClearView Flex 17" LCD CCTV: Color Flat Screen CCTV with an adjustable monitor arm that allows a student to adjust the screen for optimal visibility and comfort.|
|QuickLook: a lightweight, full color, electronic portable print magnifier with an integrated 4” LCD flat screen display.|
|P.I.A.F (Picture in a flash): produces high quality tactile graphics for blind and visually impaired individuals.
|The ClassMate Reader is a portable text reader designed for students to listen to the audio version of their textbooks and study materials.
|Sorenson VRS is for deaf and hard-of-hearing callers who use ASL to place phone calls to any hearing person.
| Optelec Tieman Group 17" LCD CCTV: This is a portable CCTV design for portability. It allows students with visual difficulties to use it in a class/lab setting. This device can also be used to read the blackboard because it can magnify objects at a distance.
|Clearview+ HD 22" TFT Ultra Flexible Arm: enables visually impaired students to be able to read handouts and other printed material with the use of the device.
|Magic Wand: Is a hand held scanner for scanning printed materials, class notes, handouts as well as photos. The materials are saved as either PDF or JPEG format. This device is ideal for scanning class notes and research materials.
|Livescribe Echo Smartpen: Is a digital audio recorder device which synchronizes text to audio as is being written on a special notebook. It is ideal for classroom setting.
|Victor Reader Stream: A portable device used for playing DAISY books, MP3 files. It is also able to convert text documents into audio with the use of a text-to-speech synthesizer.
