DISABILITIES: Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Hearing disabilities cover a broad range of auditory conditions from hard of hearing to total deafness. Hearing disabilities are considered hidden because they surface only upon communication. The Office of AccessABILITY at Hunter College offers comprehensive support to deaf and hard of hearing students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Available Support
Some of the accommodations utilized by students with a hearing loss include:
- Counseling and Advisement
- Priority Registration
- Sign Language Interpreters for Classrooms
- Alternative Test-taking Accommodations
- Note-takers
- Access to Word Processors
- Interpreted Directions and Overall Services
- Referral to Professional Services and NY State Rehabilitation Agencies
- Assistive Devices (FM Transmitters, TTYs)
- Deaf & Hard of Hearing Club (Access to cultural and social activities)
- Liaison to Hunter's Study Abroad Programs
