Last Orientation for New International Students

We cordially welcome all of our new international students for the 2014 – 2015 academic year. Please be advised that the international student orientation is different from an academic orientation, which is mandatory for international and non-international students. In addition to the academic orientation, all international students must attend one international student orientation. If you have not yet attended an orientation, the last date to attend is Wednesday, September 17. Please notify the International Students' Office ( if you wish to attend.

You will learn:

  • How the International Students Office can assist you with immigration advisement and academic support services
  • About immigration benefits and responsibilities of students in F-1/J-1 status, including employment options
  • About health insurance options for international students

New York Yankees Baseball Game

Enjoy an evening watching one of America's greatest past times; the world famous New York Yankees will be up against the Tampa Bay Rays. Let's show our support and cheer our team! There is a $15 admission fee.

One To World Event:

Community Service Beach Clean-up

Join fellow international students and local residents for the 29th Annual International Beach Clean-up Day. Spend the day at Coney Island beach gathering and cleaning up the remnants of summer past and enjoy an afternoon picnic on the sand with new friends. There is a $10 event fee.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Information for F-1 Status Students

Post-completion Optional Practical Training appointments are now available with the International Student Advisors. If Fall 2014 is your final semester, the earliest date to apply for OPT is three months prior to your completion date: December 23.

Applications Open: Tuesday, September 23

To apply for OPT:

  • Students must first have filed a Degree Audit Application Form (DAAF) at
  • Provide a letter from your departmental advisor stating your expected date of completion
  • Provide a second letter from the Graduation Audit in Oasis (Room 217, North Building) stating that you have applied for graduation
