Student Elections Are Coming - Become a Candidate!

During the week of April 11, 2016, elections will be held for the 2016-2017 academic year. Get involved! Find out how you can be elected to the Undergraduate Student Government. Become a Student Government Representative or a member of an important College-wide Committee.

Join an existing slate, run as an independent, or form your own slate of candidates.

POSITIONS

  • Undergraduate Student Government: The official organization which represents students, chartered clubs, allocates funds, and provides social, cultural and political programs. (Eight Executive Officers and 14 Senators available)
  • College Association: This organization reviews and approves all student activity fee supported budgets. (Four undergraduate positions available)
  • Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation: This organization reviews and approves all contracts for auxiliary enterprises on campus such as the bookstore and cafeteria. Additionally, this organization allocates funds for various campus activities based on available revenue from auxiliary enterprises. (Three undergraduate positions available)
  • Faculty-Student Disciplinary Committee: This committee hears testimony and renders decisions regarding allegations, which if proved, may subject a student to disciplinary action. (Six undergraduate positions available)

Prospective Candidate Workshops

For those students who are considering running for any of the positions, we have scheduled workshops so that you may learn more about the rules governing the elections, eligibility, and how to organize a campaign, etc.

  • Wednesday, March 9 at 5:00pm
  • Tuesday, March 15 at 10:00am
  • Thursday, March 17 at 3:00pm
  • Monday, March 21 at 11:00am

In an effort to increase student participation, campaign funds are available (see the election packet for details). All candidates must pick up an elections packet which is now available in Room C001 North. Please note, to be eligible to seek office, all declaration forms, which are found in the elections packet, must be submitted by 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2016.

Reminder:
In an effort to increase student participation, the undergraduate elections will once again be via the web only. All students must access their hunter student email account to vote. If you have not set up your account, go to the ICIT Student Help Desk in Room 109 North and ask for help.

New York Andalus Ensemble Performs at Hunter

Today, a spirit of intercultural exchange is reborn with the New York Andalus Ensemble, a multi-ethnic, multi-faith group that performs in Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, and Ladino.

Under the direction of ethnomusicologist and multi-instrumentalist Dr. Samuel R. Torjman Thomas, the New York Andalus Ensemble is dedicated to conjuring anew the cosmopolitanism of Cordoba in present-day New York.

Sponsored by the Hunter College Music and Anthropology Departments.

CUNY Math Challenge 

Students are invited to compete for recognition and cash awards. This program aims to identify and reward CUNY's most talented students in mathematics across the disciplines. Past winners have included students majoring in fields across the spectrum, including English and Economics.

NSSE is Coming to Hunter College!

This spring, Hunter College will be participating in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). More than 1,000 four-year colleges and universities in the United States and Canada have used this survey to measure the extent to which institutions engage in effective teaching and learning activities, in order to develop practices that foster student engagement. Randomly selected samples of Hunter College freshmen and seniors have been selected to participate, so check your Hunter email toward the end of February for your invitation!

Free Flu Vaccines for Students, While Supplies Last

Hunter College is once again partnering with local Duane Reade pharmacies to provide seasonal flu vaccines for students on a first come, first serve basis, while supplies last. (There is a discounted price of of $25.99 for faculty and staff with a valid Hunter OneCard. Duane Reade will accept most medical insurance for the vaccine.)
